Default 900/90 FAQ

The VOC web site now hosts the FAQ created by the Volvo Club of America on their 'Brickboard' web site. We greatly appreciate being allowed to share this with the VCOA.

This is just for the 700/900/90. I am not aware of any similar FAQ for the 40 series, if anyone does, please post here.

Hi Bob,
Steve Ringlee's 700/900 FAQS are the result of Steve's hard work and the contributions made by many Brickboard contributors. An example of what can be achieved by a community of people who are driven by a generous spirit.

Being the contributor of several detailed articles in the 700/900 FAQS I am pleased that your members can access them through your site. However, I am disappointed that my access to information you have on your site is in many cases restricted.

As I reside in Australia and wish to receive no mailed correspondence, do I have benefits in being a financial member?

Regards,
John

You are correct about the hard work done by Steve and all the contributors on the FAQ, which is open to anyone to read. As is this forum, with its wealth of information, and plenty of help from the many users who post replies and try to help with as many issues as possible.

All this for nothing. Well, nothing to all the users, but the club foots the bill for the server and all its running costs...not cheap.

If everything on the web site was available for all to see, what would the point be in joining. We have around 2000 indexed pages totalling around just under 2Gb of data. With just under 2000 different viewers each day it all adds up with the cost of the server, in bandwidth. That does not come cheap.

So I think it is reasonable that those who have paid the membership fee should be able to access the password protected pages. It is part of the membership pack. The membership fee covers many of the expenditures we have in running this club, including the server. My time running the server and looking after the web site is free, if it wasn't the club would be broke.

I hope this places some perspective on things. I know we cannot please everyone all the time, but....that's life.

Question

This is only a suggestion ,
but having read the comments above why not have an 'overseas subscription' which would be slightly less than 'full membership' and would not get postal correspondence but would get access to restricted section of the site?

This would contribute to server expense AND allow overseas members to access restricted parts of the site.

If this has been discussed or thought of and dismissed before , then I'm sorry- I only registered today!!
