Wife's new S40 2.0D R-Design Powershift came in at only £219 a year....

Never mind the £400 a year I paid for my previous MB E55 AMG.... THAT was good!

Brokers and insurance companies are all wanting to be the one to offer the lowest premium. The only way they can guarantee to do this is to find out what you are about to be paying and then come in a few pounds less. When asked for that info I just tell them to issue their best quote and if it really is the lowest (for the same cover) then I will accept it. Otherwise they do not get my business.

We who are required by law to get the insurance cover want to pay as little as possible for it. Insurance companies and brokers need to get as much as possible for it.

I sometimes have the stupid thought that as the government requires us to get the cover then they should set up an agency to provide the cover centrally. When you tax your car then you also have to get the insurance - but it would never work.

The VOC insurers only cover people of 25 and over.

I did an online quote for my new XC60 D5 with VOC and they were some 53% more expensive than Direct Line for exactly the same cover that includes many years of no claim, protected, 12K mls, Business Use, me + wife.

Makes you wonder why it can differ so much. Needless to say, VOC did not get my business.
