Personally, I'd have briefed the briefs before now. Two months to do a job that should apparently only take an hour, and which he's screwed over your engine on, is so far out of order it's on another page.

Set the pin-striped dogs on him.

Threats of legal action and trading standards seem to have worked, and touch wood, I should be getting my car back tomorrow.

Any advice on anything I need to look out for or ask for etc? He had admitted to cracking my front number plate as well so is replacing that. I'll be sure to look for any other cosmetic damage ( it was dent free before it went on it's extended holidays). Engine wise I'm probably more incompetent than he is so don't really know what to look out for. Cheers.

Crikey !
What a rollercoaster ride you have had.
Think i will do my belt(s) and pulleys myself after reading all that.

Do check EVERYTHING before leaving his garage.
Air Conditioning may not work if he has bumped all the gas.
And get paperwork to prove guarantee / warantee claims.

Good luck !

Guess what? I'm not getting my car back today after all. Apparently he has driven the car back from the place that replaced the engine for him and has noticed there is some play in the suspension. Said something about stripped track rod ends when replacing the engine. So he has promised that he will replace the track rod ends and have the car ready for tomorrow.
Tomorrow never comes with this joker.

I've never heard of track rod ends causing play in the suspension.

It could have been the steering, I'm not very mechanically minded and they both begin with S......
