244 Rear Seat Removal
I have to do some welding on the C pillar (is there such a thing).
Not sure how to add image I have all ready removed the rear quarter windows (easy enough). Now I need to remove the rear seats to prevent fire . I got the rear seat base free at the front but it seems to be hung up on something. Then I have to remove the seat back. Has anyone done this previously that would know the correct procedure. Thanks. |

Here's a description of how to remove the 244 rear seat bottom -- lifted from the US Brickboard forum:
1. Slide both front seats up as far as they will go. 2. With the big seat-back adjusting wheels, lean/tilt the front seat backs as far forward as they will go. 3. Pull down the center arm rest so you can get some more room between the rear seat back and the bottom cushion. 4. Stick your hand in there and free up the center bottom of the cushion from that clip and pull the seat up a bit. ( You can feel exactly what's going on, the hook/clip is right there). 5. Now wedge yourself behind the driver's seat and kind of kneel down on the bottom cushion and push back with your knee while you're pulling/wiggling the bottom cushion up and back from the rear. 6. Do the same thing on the other side.

244 Rear Seat Removal .Done.
Okay ,so here it goes.
Bench: Front clips are a straight pull up to disengage. Rear clip is not easy to access ,but it is basically the rear of the seat bottom frame , made from 6mm or 1/4 inch round bar (which has a certain amount of spring to it). This is hooked around a fixed bracket fixed to the chassis. Pushing on the wire close to the bracket with the wooden handle of a mallet was sufficient to disengage it and enable bench removal. The upper section has two loops (at the bottom) hooked on to metal clips attached to the body . I bent the clips enough to unhook the loops. Top of seat is attached in a similar way to the bench, but with two clips. The bench method would not work here. Knowing the springiness of the seat frame, I used a justifiable amount of pulling force on each side at the top to ease the tension on the frame then push (at the cushion) each side in , up and off . Job done. Last edited by Bob 1967; Jun 19th, 2019 at 21:13. Reason: Location of clips. |
