Default Fuse box under steering wheel - removing panel

I want to pull the alarm siren fuse as I think the battery has failed and it's draining the battery. I understand on the 2005 model V70 the fuse is in a box under the steering wheel. I've undone the two bolts holding the panel on but can't work out out to get the panel off as it seems securely attached otherwise - it's quite a large piece of plastic that has extension into the foot well.

Any tips?

Been there done that, what a PITA and then you can't see the bl**dy fuses etc. Not one of Volvo's better ideas.

well it's off and the alarm fuse is out and the battery recharged and it started fine this morning - I should really do a proper parasitic drain test.

Voltage on battery with engine running is healthy so don't think it's the alternator.
