Default Volvo 740 Power Steering Hose

Today i have discoverd that my 740 2.0i has a small fountain of steering fluid coming from the main steering pressure hose. My question is: is there an after market hose available that dosent cost a fortune? Ive looked and Volvo can order me one but it only comes in a kit, its £120 and it has to come from Sweden. Are there any after market parts i can get cheaper than this or is it worth just biting the bullet and putting genuine Volvo hoses on it?

Cool

Breakers perhaps? That would be my starting point, or even somebody on here breaking one?

Try: http://www.breakerlink.com/index.php you might even get a complete (spare) pump with the hoses for that kind of money.
They search all over the UK, and text you with details of breakers who have the parts. Costs about £1.50 and well worth it.

OR...Try an ad in the 740 Wants section.

OR....If you have one reasonably close, you could also try a hydraulics servicing firm, like those that go out and fix diggers and stuff, who often have the equipment to make up hoses to spec. If you have the end fittings you're halfway there.....but if not, then get the Volvo one.

On the face of it £120 doesn't seem too bad. Think of the work it's done for many many years, and what a broken pump could cost you if you fit a cheaper hose? Depends on how long you're going to keep the car really.

Like Oilydad says look up hydraulic engineers in yellow pages. We've four within a 8 mile radius, and Blackpool's not exactly known for industry. there's bound to be one near you. A friend of ours often gets them made up re-using the old end fittings.

Pete.

Got two made up for my old van a few years ago from local hydraulic company. Only cost £20-00 each as against £90-00 for mercedes ones. Take old hoses off and make sure they get the angles right for the end fittings. You can't twist the hoses much at all and if the angles aren't right then there a nightmare to fit.

Can recommend Pirtek. They fitted new hose to a pas pipe on a chevy I used to own using the original fittings .Should be a branch near you.
