Default hose next to oil cap is? lol

Hi. My 05 s60 has shut down two or three times on me while driving. It has also since then seemed like it wanted to shut down but stays on. I've been babying it and otherwise it's been fine. I popped the hood and noticed that there was a bit of light white'ish smoke or steam coming from a hole in the engine right next to the oil cap. I sort of wiggled the hose that rests over the hole and noticed it wasn't connected to another hose toward the bottom of the engine like it looks like it should be. When the car runs I get a sort of puffy smoke puffing out of the hole in tandem with how the engine runs. Is this going to be ok for a while until I can get it replaced? Or is it potentially damaging the engine?! It's had to have been like this now for over a week! Any advice or knowledge about this particular hose would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
