Default Water hose to back window wiper broken

Hi there,

This is my first post on this forum and I hope I'm doing it on the right place.

My name is Nuno, I'm from Portugal but now living in Sweden.

I have a Volvo 940 Classic estate which runs perfectly and never really gave me any major problems.

The problem that I now got, is that the water hose, which takes water to the back window wiper is broken. When I try to clean the back window there's water dropping from behind the front console, on the passenger side (I guess in the UK would be the drivers side). So if someone was sitting there, they would get their feet wet.

Could someone give me advice on how to fix this broken hose? A quick patch will be enough or do I need to replace the entire hose? How can I reach the hose and see where it's broken?

I hope I explained it well enough, english isn't my mother tongue.

Thank you all in advance!

Hi,

The pipe that carries the wash/wipe water mix to your rear screen passes through under the dash. You'll see it when you pull the kick panels and such from your passenger footwell.

There is, if I remember an in-line connector around there so this may have come apart thus giving your passengers a wonderful foot spa!

If it has separated then you'll need to ask why. Usually adverse pressure, caused by a blockage further down the line.
So you;ll need to check the pipe into the tailgate and probably the washer jet to make sure they are clear. Use an air hose on the pipe and a fine pin on the nozzle of the jet. You may need to remove the jet unit to give it a good clean and clear.

Great! I will have a look at it tomorrow when the sun comes up again.

I'll report back.

I had a closer look today under the dashboard and I took two photos. Please have a look.

How can I remove this bottom part of the dashboard on the passenger side? Is that "green cable" the water tube?

Thanks!

Hi,

The black plastic retainers turn 90° to release so you can then pull that panel down. There may be other points but I can't remember off hand. The pipe should be black and I can't make out any in the photos.

You'll find things easier once you have that panel and maybe the outside one easier to see and trace the pipe.

Thanks a lot! I'll take the panel away tomorrow and post a new photo of it so I'm sure I don't brake anything else!

Hi again!

I went back to the car today, took away that bottom panel from the dashboard on the passenger side and was able to have a good look at loads of electrical cables under there but no sight if the water tube.

Since I couldn't see the water tube, I decided to press the back wiper button for a second or so in order to see where the water is actually coming from. Here's two pictures. One from the entire area before pressing the water button and the second one from the area where the water leaked. Still can't understand where it is coming...

Hope someone can help me out. Thanks!

Take the passenger kick panel off. Its just in front of the door. The washer pine shound be running up to the bulkhead from there. Follow it to see where it goes through. Re join the pipe and secure with cable tie.

Could you please show me a picture of that kick panel? I have no idea what that means. Sorry!

It runs from the bottom of the dash to the floor.
