Turbo to Intercooler hose sweating oil
Hello everyone,
Our XC90 has recently come back from the dealer with an advisory note that the hose from the turbo to the intercooler is sweating oil. I have spoken to the dealer and they have said that it's not an urgent item but that we / they should keep an eye on it should it deteriorate further. One problem is that we can't keep an eye on it because we don't even know what this hose looks like / where it is! Does anyone know and can they direct us to the right spot /hose or even post a photo? Any, whilst I don't know much about cars, words like turbo, intercooler and 'sweating oil' worry me. Failure of these two parts sounds expensive to me so we're a bit worried about a hose failure and loss of lubricant. We'd appreciate some reassurance, advice and guidance if anyone is feeling generous with their time and want to help...... Thank you. |

What they are trying to tell you is that it is not in prime condition , the oil soaks through the rubber and softens it , it is going to burst eventualy resulting in a bad loss of power and lots of black smoke out the exhaust . If you want to prevent trouble i would replace it . At least they have warned you and not forced you into it which is good . It is no good keeping an eye on it , no one can tell when it is going to burst , it just happens in an instant like a balloon bursting .

if its a hose going from turbo to intercooler its not going to be carrying lubricant, so I wouldnt worry about your engine seizing.
I'm not an expert, but you will have some oil vapours that may settle in your intercooler, & I'd say this is pretty normal. |
