Default Oily D24TIC - should I be worried?

Just been chanigng the glowplugs on the D24Tic and I've noticed 2 things that might be of concern:

- Oil in the hose where it connects to intake manifold - I did only start it up briefly though, reverse it on the drive then switch it off.

- Lot of oil in the middle of the passenger side of the engine block. I know these aren't really clean engines and I expect an oily engine, rather than a shiny engine, but it worries me a bit because it's not oily on the cylinder head - only on the block directly below the cylinder head

.... headgasket possibly??

Hasn't used any water, runs fairly smooth apart from straight away after cold start, temp gauge seems to stay central once it's warmed up.

Car done 176,000. I've only had it 2 months - put about 2,000 miles on it so far.

Oil change was overdue when I bought it - came out bit think, but has good semi-synth 10/40 in now.

Last time I checked over (last week):
- No oil in coolant
- No loss of coolant since I bought it
- Oil dropped a little (from half-way between min/max to about a quarter)
