S60 rear brakes
Evening all,
I replaced my rear discs and pads on my 2002 S60 D5 a few days ago. I decided to go for Textar this time, the discs are coated, but I've noticed that on the near side, the coating is still present on the inside by around 10-20mm. Never had any issues with the old discs and pads. Has anyone else had this issue ? Everything was cleaned up when stripping down. I think I'll give it till the weekend then get the caliper back off again for inspection. Pic attached. Bit annoyed that I've also managed to pick up a stone already to score the new disk ! |

Tbat might just be unswept area, or it might be a problem I have just faced; the hump on top of the pads, and the caliper, don't go together properly, thus the top of the pad is clamped onto disc whilst the bottom leaves a gap.
I cut/filed the pads down on the top, still not perfect tbh but I was struggling for time/tools/etc so it had to do. The previous pads had worn really wonky. These are better than previous, but I may get some more next month, properly sort the top out, and swap em. |

Both of mine did a similar thing after new discs and pads despite everything looking cleaned up and aligned properly. Over the next few hundred miles they wore gradually across to cover the full width.

Did you clean and lube the glide pins?
In general it takes time for the coating to wear out. Just don't break them in agressively or the coating will stick to the pads.

Yes, I did. The pins on the side I'm having trouble with were particularly dry, so I made sure they were cleaned and well lubed when reassembling.

I used ATE (they make the genuine Volvo) discs and pads and the coating wore evenly no problem.
See pic attached.
