Thank you to you all .
I have no leaks and fuel gauge does not drop from when car gets home to when it next goes out. Now covered over 100 miles and gauge showing just over half full when car on level. Suspect gauge as no other obvious faults or leaks. Will fill her up this week and see how much she takes and work out MPG. |

To work out consumption you need to go from full to full.
You cant rely on gauge position for any more than an estimate of fuel |

Long time ago since i had a 144 auto but i used to get 32mpg out of it, only mod from standard was a Sparkrite SX2000 electronic ignition and used ATF in the carb dashpot - that was Volvo recommended anyway but worked well.

Late to the party on this one but I would have to start looking out for a petrol station at around 220 miles after previously brimming the tank, on my 144 single Stromberg auto with good compression, 123 ignition and a new head.
If I did all motorway driving I might get lucky with 240 miles....but I'd be preparing to pull over with my jerry can thirsty thirsty cars
