Dontbhave an aversion to getting the cambelt replaced - but I do like to have the proper advice
Sounds like a new employee with no general knowledge i am afraid . That only works if you are doing 18000 miles a year , that is why it is stated 108000 miles OR 10 years which ever comes first . Ask for the service manager or go to a different dealer ...
By the way the above applies to the 5 cylinder diesel which i am assuming you have ?

If you have the new 4 cylinder 2 litre Diesel then things regarding cambelt change have just been revised , it is 90000 miles or 10 years which ever comes first .

This may not apply if you are outside the UK ..

Hello Mr Knowledge.

2012 XC60 here, 130k miles.
Bought this year, FSH, had its minor service done in march at the dealership.

Wife broke down, said steering and everything shutdown. Discovered battery dead and belt is broken, but the belt looks really fresh and new.

After reading through all of this, instead of just replacing the belt with an aftermarket, I am assuming your advice is to take it into the dealership and request they change the tensioner with the aux belt?

Paperwork says cambelt was done at 120k miles but nothing about the aux belt mentioned.

Also, I assume I can throw in a fully charged battery and drive it to the dealership without concern? or is there some magical ****ery that will hinder me?

Thanks in advance

That was very lucky, obviously not serviced properly in the past.

You wont have power steering if you drive it not very wise and there is a big current drain so you may find it runs out of juice, probably illegal too!

I would assume the cambelt is not genuine volvo and get the whole lot done, with Genuine parts, ok for the next 108000 miles or 10 years then..
BUT the aux belt itself must be changed again in between at 54000 miles.

Power steering was actually fine, but AWD was disabled.
Drove it about 0.6 of a mile to the dealership (lucky where it broke down)

They took it off my hands, £340 + vat for new tensioner and new belt.
Old aux belt was not volvo. Should be ready saturday.

Fingers crossed no issues for a while.

Oh btw, the FSH is with Volvo and its on their system so god knows how or why an aftermarket aux belt ended up in there.
