They're not really making much noise about it - though I notice the configure tool has been taken off the website and you can now just pick between the models.

The replacement has slipped as they previously said the new V40 had to be out by Feb 2019.

I suspect that the real reason is that when the Ford split happened, they licenced the tech for ~ 10 years and that is now up.

Replacement V40 appears to have had a change of direction from what was originally planned a few years ago. AutoExpress report it's going to be more suv than current hatch...

I assume Volvo's change of direction may be the cause of late replacement.

I'd expect the replacement to be something like the forthcoming Lynk & Co 04 which is CMA-based:

Off to see if I can do a deal on what would be one of the last T2 R-Design editions tomorrow

The V40 isn’t being replaced. Here is the link to the Volvo annual report given today in Gothenburg, Sweden:

https://investors.volvocars.com/~/me...2018report.pdf

‘Portfolio renewal completed - S60 and V60 launched. We have ramped down production of the V40, which will also soon be phased out, while ramping up production of the XC40.’

An interesting read - they sold 26.6% fewer estate cars last year too...

As a % of total sales yes. But 7,000 more estates than in 2017, its because they sold 80,000 XC40s which are SUVs so the % mix decreases.

Makes sense, the V70 was as desirable as a hearse and the old V60 whilst a relatively nice looking car, wasn't very practical.
