V50 CV boot Passenger side wheel end
Has anyone DIY replaced the outer boot on the Passenger side of an auto on these yet ?
reason i ask, i noticed a Total mess on the barrel of the left front wheel and removing it to find out what, i discovered the Clip for the Boot, that holds it on, was sitting at the hub, popped off/fallen off /unclipped itself and been moved off the boot/ joint end and floating about . Needless to say theres no grease left in the boot, most of it is Over the wheel/suspension area (and now me) So does anyone know the spex For the grease ? , i have Loads of pots of grease, but knowing which one ,, would help, atm tempted to pack it out with high melting point castrol grease , Ditto the clips the one fitted to mine ISNT As per vida shows, a "pinch" (oateker pliers) type clip ring, more of a "spade and socket push together affair) i changed the front disks/pads about 4weeks ago Everything was fine then, so im at a loss how come in less than 200 miles the CV boot clip has gone from fine to not where it should be,,

Hi
Just done my drivers side. Similar as the clip had come loose. I just cleaned all the old grease away with brake cleaner. Bought a new band, about £2 from motor factors and a tin of CV joint grease. Put some more grease back in and a new band on. Been fine since. BUT don't put too mich grease in. If too much is in it can force the boot off again. I remember years ago CV joints came with a small sachet of grease so not much at all. In fact motor factors might be able to supply the sachets but remember there will still be a bit of grease in this joint so might not need a full sachet. Like this https://ricoeurope.com/gb/moly-greas...YaAgnkEALw_wcB Only 20 grams. Iain |

thankies Iain oh and i Have brake cleaner + IPA to remove the mess....and a pressure washer for me after

and thats done, Mess cleared up, tools cleaned as well that grease gets everywhere,,
not the easiest of jobs, i can see why "take the drive shaft out and do it on a bench" is recomended. couldnt get Just the clip/band but £2.50 for a cv boot kit and put the rest in the box of bits happy with that,, but not the mess that job causes guess Who had JUST finished machine polishing the car the day before the clip failed,,
