Default "Anti Swar Bar Couplers"

Hi!

My Mum's S80 is due on the operation table and needs new "Anti Sway Bar" couplers... (Hope they are called so). I've already got some coming, but wanted to quickly ask, how it is best to swap them on the S80?

Is it clever to fit them "under tension" or what would be the best way?

Thanks

Damien

Do you mean anti-rollbar drop links ?

Their replacement is an FAQ, and exhaustively covered - use the search button.

That's why I didn't find anything... They are what I meant. Thanks!

In the US these are called anti-sway bar links, because their purpose is to counteract sway of the body relative to the wheels. I think this a rare instance where the US term is more accurate than the British term. In the US 'rolling' means the rotation of the body of the car by 90 degrees or more. Swaying means the leaning of the body in the suspension, and this is what these suspension elements are counteracting.

I finally got around to changing them... Christ almighty is that an easy job! Combine it with the change from Winter to Summer rims and tires and it could be done all the time...

Drove it around the block a little while ago: drives like a different car. The car doesn't sway/wobble so much around the curves now and the "plock plock" noise, caused by damaged ball joints have gone.

We bought the S80 about 3 years ago from a VW dealer and thought the top steering bearings were knocking, so we put it off as long as possible - like a new exhaust and sorting the lights out. As I was in the "cambelt change time mood" I simply claimed the S80 as "my tinker toy" and simply started repairing all that, what we hadn't been really interested in doing...

Tomorrow a good full car wash with all what can be done and after that a proper polish to get the car shining and sparkling and then it will be perfect...
