If its a manual, there isn't one, the filler hole on the front of the gearbox is also the level hole. Fill it till it runs out again.
Probably better to drain and refill with new.
Make sure you can undo the filler plug BEFORE draining the box, or you find yoursel in a most unamusing position.

OOOh no no no no no.
Special oil you can only get from volvo (and maybe, presumably renault) else the gearbox will self destruct. Its damn expensive too, about £30 to change it.

If the gearbox is all clunky, have you changed the gear linkage bushings? These are a very common problem.

On the bottom of the gearbox, where the linkage enters it, the linkage terminates in a ball joint that sits in a white plastic bush, I think theres a bush you can change at the gear lever end too. They are fairly cheap £20 or so, and not too hard to swap.

No need to remove the box.

I have a 1989 G plate 740 GLE, used to and from work etc, and...
a 1989 F plate 480 ES, to which I fitted a Turbo engine fom a 1991 model about two years ago.
I also used to stock car race 480's (and a couple of 240's before that)
