Default 2 days and 2 pipes

I have wasted no time as a returning Volvo owner and lover of the V70 R to start the task of making a great car even better, or at least try. I have had the car 2 days and had a new twin exhaust built (originally single) by those great guts at Longlife, Gloucster. For those guys that are interested, the pipe diameters are different to try and balance the pressure (to stop that awful sight in the morning of one pipe condensing and not the other). I think they have pulled it of as on its first stsrt up in condensed the same. A big thumbs up from me!

Hi Ren that looks good, How much was it in the end? and also what is the noise level like? as mine has two bloody great suitcases wedged on either side on my rear bumper,

regards Gary.

I managed to negotiate it for £500 as long as a spread the word on the forum and the fact that this was my third system from them. I would imagine that a mention from seeing it on hear would put you on first name terms and some cash back in your wallet. At the end of the day, you specify and they build.

In terms of value for money - this is a custom 2.5" cat-back system, custom hangers and 2 silencers with almost 5 hours of labour compared to an of the shelf mild-steel job for just over £400 without fitting.

As for sound, I wanted something that sounded like I was driving a car worthy of th 'R' badge. The best way to describe it is in between an RS turbo and scooby during idle and with a gentle bass note upon engine load i.e. quality not tacky! The drive home to Swindon this afternoon was rewarding enough with people pulling along side on the motorway casually opening windows to get a listen. There was a slight drone in the cabin, but I have experienced a great deal louder (headache stuff!)

I like the look of those boxes, I thought they would've been slightly bigger,
Did you not consider a single box system? as i am looking at this, but the twin pipe does look very nice,

regards Gary

Gary,

I had the single unit on a V70 2.5 20v and regretted not putting on a twin everytime I saw a twin-box picture. There is just something about a twin exhaust system that just finishes off the back end of a Volvo. It's a matter of opinion of course. I just think if you have a performance motor like these then you give it the best you can.

The boxes or cylinders in this case is dependent on working space. The sound, as you may already know, is baffled inside and there is a variety of levels to choose from. You may not be able to tell, but in the search to balance the pressure for the two different pipe diameters from the splitter, the driver's box is slightly longer (cm's only).

If undicided, there is another option. Have the single made and if it's not to your liking whilst you are there, simple ask for the extension. At a guess you would probably be looking at a difference of £100.

now that looks excellent, i don't think you could of gone for a better tailpipe really suits the back end well

Powerflow used the same diameter pipe all the way tho on my system & both pipes steam the same amount (& both kick out flames ), they did my system with a single silencer in place of the original suitcase tho (before it splits to 2) so not sure if that makes a difference

Thanks Chris,

The guys made a template from the original and cut and sanded the second. They did a really good job. It just needs a little touch-up on the underside to cover the width of the now visable grey plastic.

I took the advice of Robin on the day who is the founder of Longlife (and powerflow - split because of differences over quality etc, etc - I had the full story from the horses mouth, as they say) who really knows his stuff. I could have had a system built like yours but I was really after something that was going to give the best gas flow and sound for the two exits. We even went so far as designing the system first with this in mind. Its simple really, the gas will find its way out the shortest and least resistant exit.

I went for a cruise this morning and I can't explain the satisfaction this is giving me. I had a thumbs up from a local Supra Turbo man running a HKS system who had to check it was the Volvo next to him making that oh so sweet sound!
