A slight diversion, but I couldn't let this pass.
Flicking through Practical Classics and in the 'Goodie Pages' spotted these wheels for Peugeot 205/309's https://tolmanengineering.co.uk/gara...eugeot-fitment Then I saw the price per wheel Those Peugeot chaps must have deeper pockets than us poor Volvo bods. Cheers Steve |

Hi Steve,
Returning to the 40-shades-of-green 245 discussed in the past and brought up by me again last week (see below).. You were right, a cheeky offer does not seem to appeal! Can I ask, what do you all think this 245 is worth (PFC406T)? Do you think it's a good example of this era of 245 or do you know of others out there worth waiting for..?! https://www.therealtoyshop.co.uk/motorbikes-cars/ Thanks all, Andrew Hello All, can I resurrect a discussion from many months ago, please? PFC406T.. Green 1979 245DL Still listed on eBay and the sellers website for £7,995, but recently removed from Car and Classic. It caught my eye and so I thought I'd dig around a little to learn some more, and found this thread (and '245 rust issues' started by mrredwards). Has anyone else learned anything about this car? For transparency, I'm an 850 driver but getting ready to advertise in order to source an early 245. Thank you all for such an amazing resource - invaluable information here! Andrew Hi Andrew, Ah yes that one, a couple of years ago it was up for sale not a million miles from me, I think it was in Woodbridge, Suffolk at the time?? Was listed at perhaps £4-£5k and if memory serves they had some photos of some lads circling the Arc De Triomphe in Paris. MOT history not that great, with several mentions of body corrosion over the years, a gap then after 2018, so I took it that it went off the road. I am guessing, but I presume it was discovered, given a quick spray job to smarten it up, then punted out. Current vendor has had it for ages now, so perhaps they may entertain a cheeky offer to return their cash, Obviously major dealers as if you look at their other listings, they have £20 - £30k motors, various bikes etc. I did spot at Mk2 Escort 1600 Sport listed for £23k!!!!!! so you may not get a deal??? |

It’s been around so long . I guess most people think it’s a potential money pit at any price.

Yes, I fear as much..
The temptation is real, knowing it's perhaps the only round headlight, late 70s, 245 for sale at the moment?? There'll be others, no doubt. Thanks for sharing your thoughts |

Hi Andrew,
What is it worth?? well as the others have alluded to, its been for sale so long and its overpriced....that's with the sensible head on However, I'll be a tad more positive, as I had a similar situation with the 145 I bought, it was the right model, interior was good and all complete, but body needs a bit of work. As I was after a project, it ticked all my boxes, and whilst I overpaid I think, I was, and still am happy with it. That is something only you can decide, as you say, a round headlight model is pretty scarce on the market, mechanically I think most things can be sorted, the key comes down to the possible pitfalls of rust, perhaps hidden behind a shiny coat of paint. However, if you are able to do welding and paint, and willing to take it on in the worst case scenario, then by all means consider it further. The only real 'downer' I have on the car, is the interior, the seats and carpet look very faded, perhaps restorable by dying the fabric, but if sun damaged then the seat covers may not survive taking apart. You could probably finds a decent set of seats from scrap, but may need to wait a while to get the 'correct' ones, if at all. Of course you could recover in leather etc. but then you're straying away from factory spec. and I know some people take dim views on changes like that, and possible impacts on value. Good luck, and let us know the outcome. Cheers Steve |

I don't know if it is still so Steve, but a few years ago almost every breakers / scrapyard in Sweden would have a selection of 1 and 2 series cars available. There was usually the odd Amazon as well, although most were by then already in preservation, while 7s and 9s were (and some still are) in daily use.
Not having our silly age-identifying number plates, and with Volvos of that era changing little outwardly over the years, the sensible Swedes tended to hang on to their cars, and look after them, for a long time. Most that ended their lives in this way were either bodily or mechanically time expired, often both, but interiors frequently survived well. As an example, I recall some friends of ours keeping their '72 144, bought at 5 years old, until the late '90s, and they were not untypical. This is perhaps a long-winded way of saying that there are still bargains to be had in Swedish scrapyards that are not always advertised. I think that an enthusiastic restorer might do a lot worse than spend a week of their holidays touring them and return with a boot full of goodies! Regards, John.

I would like to hope it is still so John, the Swedes tend to be a pretty sensible bunch on the whole, so hopefully do not just throw away stuff due to perceived age / fashion.
The very thought of raising the subject of a ‘holiday’ touring the scrap years of Sweden with the missus has just made me shudder…..😀😀 Expect Moomoo could do with a trip though, as he has a predisposition for accumulating general spares (aka crap) ‘just in case’, and I fear I’ve caught the bug, with ebay tempting various goodies😀 Cheers Steve |
