Is the dealer supposed to provide a SIM to new car buyers to get them going, or is it totally down to the buyer to purchase a SIM from day one?

Cheers
The dealer is supposed to have the SIM and on call set up and working before you collect the car ...

My Dealer didn't even mention it. I crawled in the car to find the Sim Carrier.

Having just bought a new XC90 from Cambridge Volvo in Havant, Portsmouth, they have a designated handover person to go through everything, including logging in to Vodafone for the free 100GB for the year, and logging into Spotify and any other apps you want. The previous didn't do that (partly as I didn't have time), but I was very impressed with the handover.
I will buy a 3 Sim over the next year to activate when Vodafone finishes, as it's £100 for the next year!

This last feature is ok because it sends you a message when the car is unlocked for a period. It's happened twice to me but I've been beside the unlocked car waiting for my passengers.
I'm slightly confused here.
Mine has VOC, but no sim.
I can use the app to lock and unlock the car from the house or office.

So my confusion is - why do you need the sim in the car?

VOC has it's own permanent SIM built into the control unit .. The dealer must activate it and register you to it before you take delivery .

On the V90 the seat tipping hides the access. So only through the load area.

My used V40 CC through Volvo West London had a dedicated handover person. And the car was covered in the showroom. This V90 (from a dealer just north of the M25) had neither. And the more I investigate the worse it gets. The inner carpets had never been lifted to hoover underneath. The glass had never been introduced to a dedicated glass cleaning product. Dead leaves in the bonnet hinges. Exhaust tips never been touched by a hand to clean them. etc etc.
