Which kind of gearbox????

Won't be a AW70-71 or ZF 22 :-)

Would be good to know, good luck, Kay
Going by the fact the car is a 1992 I would guess its M46 or M47

Couldn't find this information

There a bushes made of rubber at the front of the shift-cage.

The connection between the cage and the gearbox itself

Prone to dissappear too

Good luck, Kay

Default Manual. M47 I think.

Is there anything obvious that will indicate which type of gearbox?

If it's an overdrive box it's M46, after that the early 940s tended to be M47 and the later (think about 95 on - Kay will confirm) tended to be M90.

If you're really stuck, i can post a link to the 7/9xx Data Pocket which on Pg 6 (i think) it has details of how to decode your VIN number to determine which box, engine, steering, brakes and so on can be found. At least they used to work that way, i think some of the modern ones dropped some iotems of information due to the fact there was only one choice.

http://www.myvolvolibrary.info/Tech_...DataPocket.pdf

It's actually Pg5 (by Document Viewer page counter) but should confirm which box you have.

Default Thanks Guys.

Decoding page 5 of the Data Pocket against my VIN seems to confirm that I have a 945, built in Belgium in 1992, with a B200F engine and an M47 gearbox. (5 gears and no overdrive.)

I did read now the whole thread.

If the gearchange will be sloppy the bushings etc are the answer.
If you can't select the gears with engine running and car not moving the clutch will be the problem.
Dave did mention this already.

Lot of parts can go wrong:
-master cylinder
-slave
-worn out fork
-worn out clutch
-bent friction plate
-pilot bearing ( you should hear this)

Good luck, Kay
