Smile New to Volvo

Hi, I'm due to take delivery of my first Volvo next month, an XC60 T5 Inscription Pro. Although I've been driving VWs & Audis for years I'm looking forward to a change. What tips would you advise for a newbie in order for me to get used to the car and get the most out of it?
In particular do members advise the use of premium petrol form eg. Shell, BP etc. and if so what benefits are there over supermarket petrol?
Also should I get Polestar Optimisation from new or try it later? I'm not sure how it would affect an insurance quote as I don't know if it would be classified as an engine software modification etc..
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I use Tesco Momentum. It is fine. The engine is OK with standard Tesco, but not quite so smooth. I would say I get better economy from Momentum, but that is a bit subjective.
I did consider Polestar, but decided not to bother as the performance is adequate, and I am relatively low mileage.

Download the user manuals for the car to your tablet of choice (iPad etc) It then is a lot easier to get info when you need it.

I use Tesco Momentum 99 in mine, I find it the best for value high octane petrol.
I've had Polestar since a month from new when it was on at a special price, my insurance company added £7.00 to the annual premium. I think if its done when new, it is just considered to be a factory add on and then the insurance is not affected, please don't quote me on this as every insurance company's are different.

I use standard Morrisons petrol, and for all my previous Diesel engines I used Morrisons standard diesel fuel and haven’t had any problems.
I don’t keep my cars for very long, and might consider using premium fuel if I intended to keep one over three years.
I had Polestar installed in June when it was on special offer (15% off) and have been impressed with the difference. My insurers, Aviva didn’t alter the premium when I advised them of the upgrade.
Good luck with your new car, I am sure that you will enjoy it.

Hi all,

I am due to take delivery of my new denim blue V60 T4 Inscription Pro in October. It will be my first Volvo. I have driven VAG cars in various forms since 1974. My last car was a Skoda Superb Estate TSI 220 that I had from new in late 2016 which was a great car. I have admired Volvos from afar for a number of years, so I decided to treat myself to a new V60, especially as the current deals are excellent. In my opinion the V60 looks really good and the safety features are second to none. I have the towbar fitted and a three bike Volvo cycle carrier for our 2 electric bikes. I also have the intellisafe pro pack and the winter pack, and the 360 degree surround camera and a spare wheel. I looked at some of the other add ons, but did not think I needed them. If anyone thinks I have missed anything spec wise, please feel free to recommend. I can still add to the spec until the end of the month.

I have downloaded the 600+ page manual(!) and have started to read through it. It is difficult to read the manual without having the car to try things.

If anyone has any tips on things, I am all ears. This site seems to have loads of great info and I am sure I will have some possibly basic questions. Please be gentle with me.

The 360 camera is well worth the extra cash, I would consider front parking sensors, all of the other stuff is personal preference. Being an Inscription means it will have a good amount of kit already.

I moved from 9 years of VAG (Skoda, Audi and then VW) ownership to a V60 in May, and it took a bit of getting used to. There was a certain amount of struggle with everything being through the central touchscreen, and I wondered if I'd made the right decision. But now, 3 months and 5.5k miles later, I find it's very intuitive, and the voice controls make up for any challenges with hunting for options. If you've been used to a virtual cockpit on a VAG car then the Volvo system isn't as good or crisp, but it's still perfectly adequate and, again, you soon get used to it.

Overall, give it time to adjust, and you'll soon realise what a lovely car it is, and that you made the right decision (especially when you get out of the car, look back and realise how much prettier the V60 is than VAG cars!).

Regarding the spec, I would recommend front parking sensors as well. I went for the surround view cameras, but wish I'd added the front sensors (and they're an expensive post-sale add-on). The cameras are superb, and I really like them, but there's nothing as easy as hearing that beep-beep-beeeeeep, when you're parking your car, to know when you're about to hit something!

Thanks for the info. I have the front beepers as standard on the Inscription. I agree that they are a must.

The last car I had was a 2016 Superb L&K 220 TSI, with conventional instrument cluster, so I have nothing to compare that part of the car with. It was a great car, but I feel that sitting in the V60 is a class above and it just feels like a relaxing place to be. I am looking forward to getting my new baby!

Regards
