Question Curve Speed Adaption

Is this something new?

Saw it in 19 Reg XC90 today - a separate tile just like connected standby

Is this XC90 only ? My20 onwards ? or tied to Sensus update

See here

These features have been available on all current day Volvo’s for at the last year if you tick the required specification/option boxes. They make for a much more relaxed driving experience on today’s congested roads......though I was not aware of the “Curve Speed Adaption” feature of Pilot Assist.......not sure I would want to test if/if not its present in the U.K. market though.....!!

Sorry, what’s that exactly? Haven’t seen it on my car, nor in the configurator at ordering time...

Thanks!

Sounds like it's something that controls and/or curbs the speed of Pilot Assist when driving round bends?

At present, if you're sat at 70mph and approach a bend the car just carries on and motors round. Perhaps CSA gently slows or reads the road from the sat nav.

From Volvo:

Western European markets benefit from Curve Speed Adaption, a function that uses map data to adapt cruising speed in curves to a comfortable level.

I think it’s different from the previous option that was supposed to take map data into account approaching bends when on pilot assist. I’ve got an 18-plate V60 and while it’ll go round corners quite well at moderate speeds on pilot assist, it’s never slowed down.

The VAG equivalent to this option is pretty obvious as it slows down and scrubs off a lot of speed.

Update:

2020 model year only. If fitted there's additional symbology in the driver display showing upcoming corners, and the option can be enabled / disabled from the centre display.

Unlikely to be available for retrofit according to the dealer (something about limitations with steering input, which is why the V60 doesn't have steer assist), but it's always a possibility I suppose.

So got to try this today on a windy single carriageway.

A total game changer when used ACC. Slows down as needed and seamlessly. Basically set it on ACC and just control steering and adjust set speed when required.

I wonder if this can be added to older SPA cars

Got this on my 20 xc90 and it is pretty good, also works with adaptive cruise slowing you down as you approach the corner and as you go round it.. it does not work on roundabouts

Just to resurrect an old thread (most relevant one I could find):

Ive had a V90 for the last two years and picked up my new one today. I was very pleasantly surprised to learn (through driving, not dealer input) that it had curve speed adaption. Once I sussed what was going on I tried it out on a 90 deg bend (in a controlled manor) and it worked a treat; gently slowing me down from my approach speed in adaptive cruise to the speed required to take the corner. Thoroughly impressed.
