After this weekend we are keeping 440's going!!!!!!

We've had one or two in the family over the years and a 480 but this weekend my 26 year old son took a train trip down to Weston Super Mare and then drove back to Norwich in a 1989 445 GLEi in bright red but wait for it........................the car has yet to reach 45k!!!!!!

My 85 year old Aunt bought it in 1991 with 22k on the clock and has kept it serviced every year and kept in a garage with very little use. It has been serviced at a Volvo specialist for past 15 years and has only done 450 miles since it's 2010 MOT!!! The last service was Oct and I think it's done about 150 miles since that so oil looks new! All we have had to do is new battery as the old one was only 2 years old but due to little journeys won't hold charge long. Alternator charging fine.

All tyres have min 7mm tread, all electrics work, exhaust was done 2 years ago and just needs better bulbs in headlamps

Bodywork is superb with only small patch of rust in bottom left corner of rear windscreen but that's now had Trustan applied to it and will be sorted. Wheel arches look like new and only one small dent on bottom of passenger door. Inside still smells new with unmarked seats and carpets!!!!!

Only two things to consider........doesn't look like cambelt has ever been touched looking at receipts (all service books present and completed and wallet full of all MOT's and receipts for batteries tyres and servicing) and clutch pedal seems very high - about 2 inches above brake pedal but works fine and smooth.

I'm having cambelt looked at and will see if clutch pedal can be adjusted to save knee in face operation.

My Aunt (retired infants school teacher) has taxed it and given it to my son!!! Have drove home like a lord on Saturday and car did around 40 mpg!

This car will now stay in family and be cherished - wonder how much it will be worth soon??????

Will post piccies when I can

There can't be many 1989 440s left. I have had mine off the road for a few years, although I plan to have it back later this year. Some may remember it's a GLT, although mileage is about to approach a dizzy 22,000. It's also in this issue of Car Mechanics magazine.

Probably a dark garage for many, many years!

Default bumpers

Other than being kept in a dark garage, the owner painted them black!

I managed to get the paint off with thinners but I replaced the rear insert as it was badly scraped.

The actual bumper is really a dark grey, with the insert being black.
