The bloke didnt bother turning up to our little rendezvoushowever he did text me half hour after we arrived and he said to find a bodyshop in an industrial estate and say im his mate. Trouble is no one knew anything. There was about 5-6 shops down there. One shop said they onew him and hadnt seen him since prison a few years ago. He uad a look at the car and quoted 650 for straightening the chassis and painting the new parts then fitting them.

Spoke to the bloke again and he said 650 was ok. I told him that we needed to get the bits ourselves and there is a car for sale spares or repairs on ebay for 190 that we xan use for parts. Hes said ok ill sort it. There is a certain uneasiness about this, if he doesn't get the parts well miss a window of opportunity.

Thats how iv left it so far. Im hoping hell get it done fir me. Parts arent easy to get these days.

Once its done im going to take it to my bodyshop for inspection.

Might be a few days before I am able to go up, the yard is called Muirhead Auto Breakers - 0141 779 5666. Hope this helps if you are struggling for these parts.
Gonna need to get these parts I think. The white volvo sold and not to my guy!! Miffed. Can you confirm that the front end of a 440 will fit a 460?

I need the drivers wing, front bumper, bonnet and wiper motor, was the rad good? Might have that too if you do not mind? Ill give your scrapman a call later when im at lunch

I'd be querying why the other driver doesn't want to go through insurance, what's he hiding? odds on he's not got cover for the car he hit yours with, it does sound like he's already starting to string you along.

I think in all honesty your going to find yourself losing out on this unless you get the insurance company involved now, the longer you leave the messier it becomes as they will question as to why you left it so long, personally I'd have been straight on the phone to my broker as it's what I pay them for.

Really sorry to hear about this!

Glad you're OK, which is the main thing, but you've put a lot of care and effort into that 460 and it has a sentimental link as well, so I really feel for you having it damaged in this way.

Have to echo some of the concerns on here: I know you're in a bit of a catch 22 situation, because going through insurance will definitely see it written off I'd have though, but it does sound as if you cannot rely on the other driver on this matter at all.

Tread carefully and best of luck getting it sorted!

If I were you I would get the insurance involved now.

Do you have an option to buy it back? If so then go through insurance and buy it back and repair it.

I have to agree with previous posts there's probably a reason he doesn't want insurance involved, chances are he doesn't have any.

The fact that he sent you to a guy he hadn't seen for years and not since he was in prison gives me the impression he has no intention of paying out.

I would have thought the same about buying it back, should the insurance declare it a write-off. However, I would be wary due to the fact that the insurance assessor may declare a Cat B - despite the damage being repairable, I've seen this to be the case on cars in the past.

Anadinolin - for some info, yes 440 and 460 front panels will be completely interchangeable. Any parts I see I will PM you.

Found a white 440 in a scrapyart in Northamptonshire. Going to head there asap and get tue parts needed. I cannot trust this guy to bother getting things now. He wants to meet again this Saturday and hand over some money. Im worried hell give me 650 and want me to foot the bill for parts!!

Sorry I've not replied sooner Andrew, I've been moving house and been mega busy!
(Us few 400-ers left on here have to stick together!)

Anyway, I'm gutted for you mate. Especially given the sentimental value that 460 holds to both you and your family, also the amount of work you've put into it over the years.

I hate to say it, but it certainly sounds like this bloke is trying to take you for a mug.

Like has already been said, you've found yourself in a catch 22 situation.
If you inform the insurance, they'll almost certainly write the car off and send you a cheque for a tenner or something equally rediculous, but trying to settle without involving them seems to be hard work.

Either way, I hope you manage to get something sorted mate. We can't let this one go to the great scrapyard in the sky, it's just too good and precious for that!

Best of luck,

Steve

Hes done a runner!! I may be panicking, but the last couple of days to get payments I havent been able to get in touch. Insurance are abreast of whats going on and even though I reported the accident same day as information only they are happy to escalate the issue.

Have an inspection from insurance assessor today. Not happy in the slightest. Gonna give him till the end of next week untill I make a claim against his insurance and sart a long and arduous battle to keep my car on the road. Feeling somewhat heartbroken at this development now :'(
