Default New Member. V50 D5 engine woes....

Hi everybody.
I'm here looking for a little help, and possibly to offer a little in return.
My background is automotive electronics / electrics, and while I don't specifically deal in Volvo, I might have some experience, especially around the 2.0d engine, which is based on the Ford PSA DV10 engine, which I've come across many times.

However my question lies with the D5 engine. It's fitted to my V50, and I very much like both the car,and the slightly off beat engine tone from the D5.

I changed the cam belt (and aux belt) last week, and while turning the engine over to test for compression / not hitting valves etc, I noticed that 1 compression stroke was considerably down on the others. Obviously this is not a cam belt issue, and is probably internal to the engine.
Since the DMF is making grumbling noises,I'm tempted to 'whip the engine out' change all the bits that need changing, and putting a used one back.
Mine is a 180 BHP, and the key question is........... Is the 163 horse engine the same unit, just with a different turbo / injector set up. I can get a 163 horse engine very cheaply, whereas the 180 horse variant is very expensive.

Many thanks for any advice you may wish to offer.

And be gentle with me - I am new, and I don't want to be hounded on my first outing.

If you're talking about the old Euro 3 163, I can't see how it would work.
Different gearbox, turbo control, ECM etc.....

Clearly the injectors and turbo etc will need swapping from my existing engine to the replacement. But this will only be possible if the bare engine is the same - ie the bell housing bolt pattern is the same, and the injector hold down system is the same etc.
Anyone ever done it? or seen the both engines laid out side by side?

You're not understanding the massive difference between the two.
The injectors have a different mounting system so won't even fit and the injectors themselves are different, the EGR is different, boost sensor and boost control is different, management of the cooling system is different as well as what's been previously mentioned.
You won't find anyone that's done it because it can't be done in any way to make it a feasible solution.
