how to check your air conditioning temperature

set the fan to the second highest speed, run the engine at 1500 to 1600 rpm for eight minutes, or, if you have just used the car with the air conditioning on, disregard the eight minutes.
insert a themometer[ preferably a digital one that will more or less give you an accurate reading in under one minute, or a coventional one which will take longer to stabilise] into the air vent.
if your air conditioning is operating at between 5c and 8c it is running at its optimum performance, anything higher than 8c suggests it should be serviced, and regassed.

yes, this applies to the majority of all air conditioning systems in general.

On the S60's the fan has about 10 positions from off to top speed. Do you really mean one below maximum for this or is it more like three quarters of maximum? Asking because I'm starting to wonder if my a/c is running a bit weak and this will be a great way to test it.
