Hi Glad you have fixed it.
When I took my car to the indie in bridgend (Very good btw) The cleaned the contacts and it seemed to run ok. Now its back to its old tricks. Which makes me think it might be the contacts which are not a snug fit? will get garage to check tomorrow. Yours James |

The bit that fails is the contact strip housed within the ETM, once these wear through the ETM is shot, either replace the ETM or have it reconditioned preferably with a digital non contact sensor fitted inlue of the original crap Volvo installed when new - Mike

Hi Mike etc,
Just brought a new etm from volvo breakers in Preston, They fitted it in 20 mins started and idled no problem, stopped car started it and idled no problem, drove home no problem.... Started again and it would not idle at all and the surging when coming off gas. Rang them back, and they suggested spraying wd40 around the pipe work to check for air leaks. no leaks found, took it to local garage cavendish motors who read codes as being 904c etm internal fault. I could be faulty but why would it work for 60 miles only to fail again? Does anyone have any idea?????? Is anyone around in yorkshire area to look at it??? Many thanks James |

Is the car behaving the same now as it was before the ETM was swapped out?? If this is the case then I would suggest fault codes need reading to confirm if the accelerator pedal position transmitter is playing up.
Also a check around the inlet manifold for leaks especially if the replacement ETM was fitted without replacing the gasket, spraying some easy start around the outside of the ETM with the engine running should indicate a leak exists as the engine speed will increase if it can suck the easy start through a gap - Mike |

The saga continues.......
Returned to Preston 100mile round trip. Runs better but still jolts coming off gas. Etm OK fault is not Etm but either faulty Lambda sensor or a fualt in the wires to the Etm?? Cannot see why this would would be if Etm tested OK? Will try lambda sensor first before wiring. Also breakers threw old Etm into skip!!! Not pleased as it was cleaner than the one he put on! Have you had a fault code reader on the car and if so what code(s) did it throw, second guessing things like ETM wiring or exhaust gas probes is going to get real costly, at least with the codes it will point you in the right direction as to whats not working correctly.
When you went back to Preston what did they do to the car? - Mike |

YES
He had Vdice? on for over an hour checking etm, and other systems on the car. My own garage(not a volvo specialist) wants me to go back and get them to fit a lambda sensor, however they breakers are not wanting to do it, so I am stuck between rock and hard place. They also said the turbo hoses could be faulty (the small ones that supply pressure around the turbo system) are they hard to change? As could the turbo control solinod? But would that affect both the idle (still rough) and the jolt coming off the gas??? may go to volvo specialist (Rodger Newhouse - skipton) tomorrow and get a diagnosis!! the saga continues!!! my present trouble- 2000T5 = trouble x 5. My previous 97 v70 wire classic 2.0 215k come back all is forgiven!!!!! Yours James Yours James |

before you go about replacing everything, go around the car and make sure all the wiring connectors/hoses are in position and clipped in..... It worked for me!
It might be a long shot but you never know....I fixed mine like that almost by accident!
