Smile Volvo v50 sports wagon

Hi
Just looking for some help my 07 v50 keeps going into limp mode cleared all the faults at the garage and was told it could just be the batt giving out low power and that it could the fault , told to try it and see how I get on with all faults clear !!! Well just broke down again on the way home double checked under the bonnet and pushed anything that I could find together electrical connectors ect and it started first time but didn't drive as normal but power was there
Has anyone else had this problem with a old car batt and could this be the fault
Thanks for your time phil

From what you describe I very much doubt that the battery is at fault.

What were the codes?? These will prove far more valuable to anyone in pointing you in the direction to your fault.

What was the circumstances to your breakdown and when was the car last serviced? Also what engine have you got?

Hi
It was serviced last month and had discs and pads all round and Mot and was fine then this started
It had multiple codes after it went into limp home mode
Ranging from abs failure to seat belts , doors , windows , just about everything to be honest , it's a 2.0 turbo engine
It's been a cracking car never any probs untill last week hope someone can help

Well the best thing would be to accertain the now new codes stored, that would help massively.

This may be a subsiduary of the recent service, did they change the pollen filter do you know (should have)? If the car is showing multiple failures over multiple systems then this would point towards a failing CEM. However, if after a recent service it can be down to disturbed wires leading to the CEM usually caused by the removal and fitting of the pollen filter.

We won't go there yet as a new CEM is a £600 part, there is plenty to check prior to this.

1st - New codes stored - what are they?

2nd - Check wires and connectors to CEM that they are fixed and attached properly (unplug and re-plug if necessary). If unplugging make sure you disconnect the battery first and leave car alone for 10min to be safe (5min by the book). If you don't you can end up with an airbag light on that has to be reset by proper diagnostic kit to turn off.

3rd - Post up results and we can see what's happening from there.

No worries, as ever with these things nowadays things can appear really bad and turn out to be really simple. Fingers crossed it is the case for you. Perhaps a re-seat of the connections to the CEM will do the job, or maybe something completely different? The new stored codes should tell a lot more on what's at fault.

Hate to put a downer on things, but I suspect it is the CEM/ECM (never know the correct way round for that!). When mine went it was registering a whole bunch of 'communication errors' i.e. just failing to correctly communicate with anything. Would randomly send the car into limp home mode after 100 years or 10 miles.

Cost me about £700. The most inconvenient thing, other than the high cost obviously, was the part had to be ordered in from outside the country so had to wait a few days before it could be fixed.
