DPF sensors
I am still getting the dreaded soot filter full message so am going to have to start looking at what is causing it. How many sensors are there on the DPF which control the reading which triggers the soot filter full message? I am thinking of buying a new dpf and sensors although I will probably replace the sensors first.

What do you mean by that? Did you already try to replace sensors, delete trouble codes or something else?
DPF has 2 sensors - 1st is exhaust temperature sensor and 2nd is exhaust differential pressure sensor. The best would be if someone plugs volvo dice and reads live data

Got the message in a month or so ago and after a week of trying to get it to sort itself out with long runs etc I took it into to Volvo for a forced regen. Lasted about 2 days then was back in again. Would the sensors show a fault if they were faulty or would they just read high pressure?

Some Model year 2010 cars suffered failed temperature sensors, mine being one of them: I got the "Engine System Service Required" message.
Your problem would seem to point to a DPF problem rather than a sensor problem. Did your dealer not do a fault code check when they did the regen?

yes they did and the fault code was related to the DPF, never mentioned the sensor.

I took mine off, had it cleaned professionally for 200 euros and immediate cure to what had been one of my constant problems. Better mpg, better acceleration etc...
I had been having soot filter messages regularly followed by urgent engine service required etc, I was able to clear the codes and drive the car but they returned after a few hours driving and the mpg was eye wateringly bad. Also replaced temp sensor which I think got damaged in removing, but the guy that did the cleaning said that the regens and trying to clear it by driving car too hard causes too much heat in the system which then effects the turbo bearings which in turn damages the seals leaking oil etc. |

Got the Engine System Service Required amber warning yesterday on the M25 - then very soon it turned red and the message added "Urgent".
Had to abort my journey to Heathrow and used the sat-nav to locate the nearest Volvo dealer, in Slough. I had my heart in my mouth expecting imminent disaster whilst driving there (had the cambelt fail on me whilst in the fast lane of the M1 a few years ago - kids in the rear too at the time. Had visions of deja-vu). Made it to the dealership eventually - it had moved but the crap-nav didn't know that apparently. Wasn't aware of the new road layouts in Slough either - grrr!!! Anyway, relieved of £75 later, I was informed the temp sensor on the dpf had failed, and the swirl arm was also stuck. I was assured by them that I could still pick up Daughter from the airport and drive back home, but that I should book it in for repair and not drive it again until fixed. Called my local dealer who booked me in for next Wednesday - the earliest they could, and the last before New Year. They insisted they would have to do another diagnostics check themselves (another £75 no doubt) as their system isn't the same as the one used in Slough!! |

Bought a new dpf from mister auto today for £190. Not keeping the car for much longer than a few months so not prepared to pay volvo prices. Will update this post once fitted and my thoughts on quality etc.

After another diagnostic - this one costing £45, the DPF temperature sensor was changed - and I've got the car back - yippee!!!!
