Xc70 alloy wheel 2010

My wife's car had a puncture and it occurred to me that the space saver was not for me. I would like to get an 18 inch alloy wheel to fit with the best of the Pirelli tyres coming off the car which have been replaced with a new set of Pirelli tyres today. They were all quite worn and it was due a new set. It would be nice to get a matching Wheel to the car but any rim that would fit a. 235/50/18 tyre onto would be fine. I just want a full size,full speed,full weight spare. Thanks, John.

Before you buy one , try getting a full size alloy in the boot under the floor. Doesn't go, or at least mine didn't in my 2012 XC. Unless of course you are happy to lose load area to a spare wheel.

Do you. Dan that the spare wheel well simply isn't deep enough to house a full sized wheel? Even if you remove that odd tray bit underneath the floor? If that's the case thanks for the heads up but I still want a full sized spRe. I will leave it at our regular destination as I simply can't face 200 miles home on a Sunday evening at fifty mph.

You've got to weigh up the pro's and con's of carrying a full size spare. I run two LPG vehicles, both of which have tank where the spare wheel would normally sit. Most of the time, I just carry a few cans of Tyre Weld and a small compressor, but if going a bit further afield, I'll chuck a spare saver in the back to get me home in an emergency.

I think in the last 100,000 miles of motoring I've only had one puncture that required a replacement wheel to be fitted. Other than that, I've just had a few slow punctures that I've been able to drive to the local tyre centre to get it repaired.

Previously I carried full size spares in my Mazda 6 and Vectra estate and intended to do so in the XC.

It only came with the puncture repair gloop and compressor kit but I bought a space saver when I couldn't get an alloy in. Tried every which way but couldn't find a solution I was happy with. Very disappointing.

I also carry tools to repair a puncture. I use the rubberised "rat tail" type of plug and carry an air compressor. I have used this type of plug to great effect on my motorbikes and also the XC. Obviously not something everyone wants to be doing at the side of the road and if the tyre is torn or hole too big then I'd have to use my space saver anyway. But for a simple puncture it means you can carry on with your journey/holiday at a reasonable speed.

Try for yourself as you may find a storage solution that you are happy with. It is all very personal and depends what else you wish to carry.
