Yes, with VIDA/DICE you can put the EPB into Service Mode and it will retract it fully.

this is my ideal plan particularly as mr bodge **** up round them bolts every time here's almost expecting to bugger those motor bolts and seal if when i have to take that off . especially now you went and said you've seen loads of dudes bust the motor this way
ahhh seems like i have to even over think touching something on this motor and hey presto its a gone and happened nasty like I shant even go into the absolute balls up i caused on the engine block with aux tensioner replace before involving helix fix nightmare suffice to say yes im well scared of torx fittings big time it does make my respect for seasoned garage bay men increase though , its not just braun is it !! you gotta have superpowers with some stuff , telescopic fingers with mach 3 power capabilities , endless patience and a genuine love of getting brake dust in your eyeballs not to mention superpowers of persuasive qualities to pacify and calm moaning middle classed menopaused female why her cars taking longer than she thought |

Sorry for the obvious question, but is Service Mode appropriate for replacing the pads and rotor ?

Yes it is in order to make space for new, thicker pads to fit over new, thicker discs.

When the parking brake motor retracts, it doesn't force the cylinder backwards. You can think of the cylinder as a free running item. It can be pushed forward by the oil in the hydraulic system or by the mechanical jack, operated by the parking brake motor.
But it's a one-way piston. Noting pushes it back. It's just the release of pressure that makes it not press hardly on the disc. Also, when driving, any inbalance in the disc will push it back slightly when the wheel rotates, but that's it. So if you send the motor back all the way, nothing happens to the cylinder. You have to push that one back as a separate thing. I always let the oil go all the way back up to the container. Maybe you can destroy something in the main cylinder that way, but it has not happened to me. |

The bit about seals being flipped over seems very improbable to me, if it were possible then why does it not happen when you stamp on the brake peddle? The seals are shaped on every brake system I have ever taken apart such that the fluid presses the edge of the seal against the bore of the cylinder under pressure, wether that pressure comes from the brake peddle pushing the fluid out or the fluid pushing in.
It is worth removing some fluid from the reservoir before retracting the cylinder on the calipers to prevent spillage but in over 40 years of retracting cylinders I have never had a master cylinder seal flip over and lost brakes, wether the retracting was done with a bar or dedicated tool. Paul. |

yes, Vida can do this. I think it's called putting the brakes in "service mode" in VIDA.

You still have to push the piston back in the cylinder, though. What the service mode does is reversing the parking brake motor until it hits the back stop, so that it's out of the way.
