Default Looking for XC60 ownership feedback

Hi All,

I currently drive a Land Rover Discovery Sport which I have owned from new for 2 years. I am looking at a number of cars to trade to and the XC-60 is one of them.

Looking though your forum you all appears to be happy XC60 Owners but are there things I should be aware of? The dealers, quality of the build, reliability and real world fuel economy of the D4 would be great to learn.

The one great thing about the Discovery Sport is its absolutely bullet proof in snow and as I live in hilly Sheffield it would be good to know how the All Wheel Drive is on snowy slopes.

Really appreciate any advice and help.

Bests
John

Just waiting for delivery of my XC60 so can't give you any feedback on the car itself however I would think that you wouldn't have any problems in Sheffield in snow if you fit winter tyres. Not sure if the Discovery Sport has M+S tyres or summer tyres fitted as standard?

This video comparing a front wheel drive BMW X1 fitted with winter tyres and one with 4 wheel drive and summer tyres is well worth a watch: https://youtu.be/atayHQYqA3g

62000 miles 2009 , noise from rear axle Volvo dealer says Diff replacement needed parts £5540 plus labour , I'm not a happy bunny , if you buy one always replace all tyres at once (that's what I do always ) I was asked whether I did or not as say replacing front tyres can alter ratio's between transfer box to rear axle and vica versa fitting 2 rear tyres,I have been in the motortrade all my working life but never heard of that one.

Old permanent 4wd drive like older land rovers this was always the case on newer AWD such as halved that only supply power to alternative wheels in case of a loss of traction I didn’t think it was the case.

+1 on that the new 4wd systems aren't permanent 4WD like those of old. only thing I can think is you're diff has already failing & was locked in permanent 4WD which sped up the whole failure process.

Seems on mk1 haldex it was an issue but on later versions it isn’t. Back in the day it wasn’t unusual to be regularly turning and swapping wheel for even wear was a thing and they were bought in sets of 5 so the spare was part of the set when rotated

How many people ever bothered though?
