My 2005 D5 163hp Exec has been going into limp mode under acceleration. This happened more often when the engine was cold and/or under load (towing a caravan).
I checked the fresh air hose to the turbo inlet - all OK.
I also had the popping noise from the oil filler so I checked the vacuum system and found the front engine mount was shot so replaced it - no fix (although it did fix the popping and the clunk I could hear when lifting or accelerating under light load).
I then cleaned the MAP sensor and the TCV - no fix.
So I thought I would try a turbo clean in-place. First I tried "Revive TurboCleaner" - no fix. Then I tried "Mr Muscle" using the method here:

That worked a treat! Now the car goes from a standing start to red line like a dragster.
It is a bit awkward to get the bolts off the turbo, an angle impact wrench really helps.

I have exactly the same issue on my XC90 163 ('05). A rear engine mount got wrecked and this caused vacuum issues. For now the vacuum pipe is blanked off but next week a new mount is going in. The MAF was also toast.

So now I get a 'flutter' noise on the over-run and an audible 'whoosh' under load. Nailing it my Orange Triangle of Doom illuminates and Engine Service Required appears. Remove power and the warning goes away again.

So off to the hardware sore for a can of Mr. Muscle and off to Halfords for carb cleaner/turbo cleaner. A goat is ready to be sacrificed to the gods... I recently had the head off the car and did all the belts et al so getting the snail disconnected should be easier than last time.

If that don't work, off to Florida for a Turbonique Rocket Assisted Supercharger and Rocket Assisted Drag Axle!!!

I must add that cleaning is probably only going to be a temporay fix. I ended up changing the turbo a year later.
