The 4% (plus free paint) comes from Volvo, I used my VOC discount when I bought my XC70 a few months back and I also haggled another 4% direct from the dealer.

there must be a huge margin in the larger cars..

I didn't get the price myself as it was done by a fleet buyer.. but the invoice price of my XC70 was almost 15% below the list..

and when you think what the americans pay for an XC70..

Hi Kobe,
Sorry to disappoint but there certainly isn't a huge margin in the bigger (or smaller) cars, your discount will more likely to have been a combination of the lease companies terms, possibly the end user companies terms, likely to be free or reduced metallic paint and all these off before VAT so less of that unpleasantness to pay & all of a sudden a relatively huge saving from a retail RRP, but quite a complex way to get there

[QUOTE=IC;342668]Any member of the VOC who has been a member for at least six months is entitled to a discount on a new car:

- snipped

In my experience, this discount offers you nothing more than you would get by just asking. I negoiated reasoanbly firmly, came up with a price then asked for the VOC discount, and ofcoruse, this discount is already applied - Volvo will always allow dealers to give discount and the VOC 'entitlement' is just that. I've yet to hear someone actually getting something more off ... can anyone say?

Its the same with sales at PC World and the like, you just get to pay what you would have via a suitable internet supplier any other time. (Mind you, good tip here, PC World and others will price match with some internet suppliers like Amazon/Dabs etc.. so you can get the best of both worlds.

I had some good discounts on Volvo's. One of the best was:-

11% plus free Paint & Geartronic (this was from Volvo UK) and on top of that I got 7% from the dealer.

I'm not sure if all dealers get the same, but I know its about 5% plus an extra 2.5% if targets are met.

It all depends on how bad they need your business & how good you can haggle.

what I meant was the gross margin for volvo company.. not the dealer...

the stupidity of all this discounting is that it makes 2nd hand prices unstable for the private buyer and then for the company car..you need to pay tax on the full inflated RRP.. which as volvo trys to "brand up" the image without improving it's CO2 numbers.. makes it a very heavy tax bill indeed..

Hi, second post on the site !

Just bought a V70 D5 Sport from new, yeah yeah yeah I know .... !

Anyway, fantastic car. Had a V50 D sport before from new as well and the V70 is sooooo good.

MPG so far 28 !!!! Compared to the V50 where I got 38 - 45mpg its a bit different. Worth it though as the engine is great, fantastic noise and the car looks the dogs.

Cheers
