What happens when a diesel engine's asked to burn petrol, or vice versa? I've seen smoke pouring out of a car's exhaust before, but I've never got down to the chemistry of it.

I THINK there is an issue with the burning temp. of both fuels, ie petrol burns at alot higher temp than diesel.
I did it to my reanult trafic and had to get a new set of injectors. Van was stuttering and coughing, then wouldnt start, lights flashing on dash. Expensive mistake
