Full time LPG
Hello all,
Would anybody be able to offer some advice here on a fulltime LPG system to run with either a B234F (16v) or a B230E Redblock engine in a 740 car? What are the pro's and cons/advantages of a full time system as opposed to a LPG system that starts on petrol and then after warming turns over to Gas? Full time LPG - Does this mean that the car's fuel system i.e.electric pumps/fueltank/injection system etc.would be redundant? What should it all cost?? Also is it cost effective..esp. on a (well maintained) 20 yr old car?? Anyone heard/know about/experienced with this company in South Wales..it's called 'Profess Auto Gas' ?? I believe the owner is Polish and they seem to have a good reputation and their prices are also very keen from what I can see.(895 gbp quoted for a 3-4 cylinder car) Thanks a lot for any advice.. The volvo approved Landi-Hartog LPG Dealer conversions between 1979 and 1986 could be used full time , they had a kind of choke button which let extra LPG through so it would easily start on LPG from cold and run on it all day ...

If you are thinking about profess I suggest you go deep into research first. I see a lot of cars from south wales that have been converted and need sorting out. Equipment is low quality and set up is very minimal without any real effort. The only + point is they give the customers the software and lead so they can sort the conversion out when they get home.
As you want to run 100% LPG then you do have a couple of options. 1) you could fit a traditional mixer system possibly with lambda control but as a gas only car I'd stay basic with a open loop mixer. The down side is the managment light will come on and there is a risk of backfiring. Quite a strong risk with the 16 valve engine. 2) youy could go multi point but only a few systems will automaticaly start on gas. I set my own cars up that way and also set up the taxis I do to start on gas when the engine is warm. A lot of teh boats I have done on multi point have been gas only as the gas tank goes where the petrol tank went. The problem with that is not having petrol as a referance when setting up but with experiance this is not a problem. Not all cars will start on LPG from cold but the older volvo's never seem to have a problem other than needing a lttle cranking. If you want to be running on gas 100% of the time check with the installer that the system they will use can do it and they have experiance of both your model and setting up gas only cars. |

LPG only system
Hi Classic Swede,
Thanks very much for your help and advice on this subject. I see from the forum that you are experienced in this field. Thanks too for your thoughts on 'Profess' - like you say, it would be good to dig a bit deeper in to their fitting experience. Whereabout are you in 'Ynys Mon'..? Thanks a lot again, Gareth |
