Couple of years ago I was on a motorway (inside lane) and approaching a slip rd when a reliant came along hoping to get into my lane. I usually pull over but couldn't this time due to volume of traffic along side me in the middle lane.
Anyway the driver of the Reliant didn't see me till the last minute when he turned the single wheel sharply to the left trying to avoid me.
I couldn't believe what happened next. The wheel dug into the ground and flipped the car into the air (could see this in my mirrors) I thought it was gonna come down on top of me, but it landed upside down in the inside lane. I couldn't stop due to speed of oncoming traffic etc........ So that's why it's called a Robin

Seriously, I think the guy must've been ok because I came back the other side to see and the robin had been up righted, and I heard the guy went for flying lessons
Hi rdesignbob

Have a look at my post here about Robins flipping. Its been cured by the application of the 4C chassis

ps just my sense of humour..!!

Has anyone seen the in gear times for the 215 manual ? It would be interesting to compare them to the 163.

And does the 215 really return the same mpg as the 163 ?

Finding a 163 to test drive is harder than I thought.

Thanks

What Car Figures October 2011 test of Audi Q5 Range Rover Evoque BMW X1 and XC60
That's surprisingly acceptable in gear times for a big diesel motor.

Well here they are!

My figures for in gear increments are below.

Car 75% full of fuel. Air conditioning on. Daytime Headlights on.A few bits and bobs in the car such as water bottles a tool kit, some cds, remote control, handbook some books and a bag of cement!
Driver and 2 passengers on a flat section of road with a 60 limit and another with a 70 limit.

To conduct this test the car was warmed up and the in gear acceleration began at exactly 30mph or 50mph as indicated on the speedometer. The stopwatch was stopped 5 mph after the target was reached meaning that 30-50mph was actually an indicated 30-55mph which in reality would probably be 28mph to 52mph as speedometers over read.

Whilst not scientific I hope this helps. My conclusion is in real life driving there is probably not much difference as how many people do 50-70 in 3rd gear on a regular basis?? Probably be accused again of having nothing better to do which is true!!

Looks like the D3 performs better than the D5 50-70mph in all but 6th gear!

Hi Ransman

Yes I was suprised although was probably carrying around 250kg of extra weight that a What Car Road tester may not have been carrying eg passengers extra fuel and cement..!!...and my tests were probably a couple of mph extra eg 28mph to 52mph

In the real world I think 30-50mph in 3rd 4th and 5th and 50-70 mph in 4th 5th and 6th are the important ones and my conclusion is that D3 and D5 are more or less the same.

Regards

Great Thread. I am looking to get the 163BHP XC60 2.4 4WD, but none of the dealers around here have one to demo. The comments on here have given me the assurance that the 163BHP is a good bet.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the 163BHP and 215BHP 2.4L? Is it just a ECU change or are there mechanical differences? (Compression ratio, Turbos etc>>) Just wondering if the 163 could be remapped (polestar or third party) at a later date if needed?

Cheers
