Fuel Line Query
I'm not one for trying to invent problems for myself, however I did come across these small bubbles in my fuel lines. (attached)
As the car idles I can see the odd bubble move through the pipe between the filter housing and the pump. Is this normal or do I have a problem? The car seems to perform fine, I went out this evening and did a 0-60 in 9.something seconds as best I could measure with a stopwatch. Fuel filter was replaced about 10000 miles ago. It's a 2.0D 2008. Last edited by DCN85; Jul 27th, 2012 at 21:17. Reason: Added Info |

A tiny volume of air in a fuel line will not cause any problems, are all your hose connections tight, I don`t see any hose clips?

Thanks, that's reassuring. Yes, I checked the accessible connections and they all appear to be tight. There are around 4 clips along the length of the fuel line in question, clipping it to brackets and other fuel lines. I guess this is what you mean. I'll keep a close eye on it in any case. |

I actually meant hose clips at pipe unions / spigots. The fuel line `could` draw air in if any are not tight.
I noticed your fuel line doesn`t have any hose clips at those points.

Ah ok, I see what you mean. I was assuming that was by design, but wouldn't be surprised if they were removed during service. Hmm, I'll have a closer inspection when it's light again. Do you know would said clips be a standard part?

Fuel hose unions should always be clipped, fuel hose has two habits, either softening or hardening over time, both can create leaks at joints!
