Unhappy sprayed egr cleaner and died!

ok so im an idiot..

2009 s40 d5 on 77k miles, has been running fine but thought it was loosing some power..

i bought egr3 spray to clean the intake, took of the pipe after the afm and sprayed with revs at 1500rpm, took a break and sprayed again etc.

all seemed fine, went to drive and had no boost!

errors come back as egr error and dpf blocked or something.

i took it on the motorway for 15 mins at high rpm but no difference.

any thoughts? i was going to buy redex and run it thru with low fuel so its richer..

do you reckon the spray has took the clogged up goo and its went to the egr dpr?

whats your thoughts guys?

Think you may need to strip it down and clean it. I put the spray in my 09 V70 D5 but only after I'd cleaned out as much gunk as possible. Only thing I couldn't do was intake manifold. So far I've had no issues.

can you advise me what it is that needs cleaned? ive been searching for the egr cleaning page but nothing seems relevant..

do you think running fuel cleaner and driving it would do much? surely it will clean out..

Fuel cleaner won't do much as that will come with the diesel via the injectors, and your problem is in the air intake, well before that. There is a guide for a S60 D5 (163bhp engine) which I used for help, though the 185bhp EGR is different in some aspects. At the moment I can't remember the author, or if it's in this section or S60/V70 2000-2007 section. Use the forum search function and you should find it.

Basically all I did was remove the pipe connecting the EGR to the intake manifold and cleaned it. I then cleaned the EGR in situ as removing it is quite tricky.

Ps, I think the guide is by S60MDS, or a name very similar.

Just to add, when I cleaned the EGR I used a plastic sheet to protect the engine and funnel all the rubbish down into a tray. After I'd cleaned it as much as I could I reassembled it all. Thats actually quite tricky, getting the connecting pipe back into position. I then sprayed the EGR cleaner in affer the MAF sensor. I also used the same cleaner to clean everything. Took 2 cans to clean the pipe and EGR and to spray through afterwards.

The spray I used recommended spraying short 1sec burst with the engine at idle. I did about 10 sprays and then raised the revs to 1,500rpm for 30 secs. Keep doing this until the spray is empty. Then take the car for a drive, progressively using more and more revs as you go.

Good luck getting it sorted.

Never ever clean an EGR like that, dpf or no dpf its both bad for the engine and dpf
Your dpf needs to be forced regenerated or the dpf needs to be baked out and compressed aired

hi, did you get sorted, your problem might be that you were running your engine with it essentially sucking in all the air it needed from behind the afm, which would register a fault and may or may not have put it into limp mode and restricted your power

i left it to cool for a few hours and when i started it and ran again it ran perfect!

no error displayed or anything..

i had a feeling thje dpf would have been effected somehow im just glad it sorted its self out!
