New injection parts for LH cars are expensive -- it's almost always cheaper to buy from IPD USA than local dealers in Australia. Used injection parts, such as ecu, and air mass meters don't seem to be in short supply for LH 2.4 injection cars in Australia. Lots of 940 series cars were B230F here, which helps. K-jet parts are also plentiful: I think that all Melbourne-assembled 240s were k-jet in the mid 1980s, and they sold lots of them. 1989-93 240s were not as popular: when new they cost almost as much as 2 base-model Camrys.

Well, my dream redblock would be a Volvo Penta AQ171C boat engine From the factory, they were stroked to 2.5l with a forged crank and 16 valve head, and the block is exactly the same as an automotive redblock so it'll drop straight into your car. 175BHP on a restrictive marine exhaust and twin carbs. I imagine you could quite easily get 200+bhp out of it with a nice exhaust and fuel injection.

best
The engine of choice is the latest redblocks B230FK. However it cam witht he best combination of parts. The latest M90 gearboxes were the strongest. The ecu (984) was the quickest and the alternator and radiator were bigger.
You could argue that the "new" redblocks being made now for rallying up to 3.2 litres are the best. They are stronger still. The n/a later redblocks are pretty unstressed, my Uncle's one has done 300k but the tin worm has fubared the body! If you " upgrade" the B234 by removing the balance shafts and fitting a stronger bolt and newer pulley you are sort of creating a Aq171 which is the B234 head on a B230 block! Heavily modified you can get well over 600 bhpfrom the 8v and 1000 bhp from the 16v. That's removing them from their " natural environment" though. You can get 220 bhp from a B230FK real easy though, and cheaply, which would be fun in a 340. No need to go 16V unless you're looking for over 400 bhp.
