Default Recurring Issue

Generally my 2t S60 is reliable. However, every so often it has an annoying starting issue. When I start the car it fires straight up but every so often it won't go off the first turn of the key. It can take five to ten seconds to fire up. Even if you stop and turn the key it still takes a little longer than normal. It also does it when not starting from cold.
Just before it starts playing up the car gets a little sluggish and that's the sign it's going to play up. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing it?

14k ago, I took it out the weekend while I secured the airbox pipe. It looked ok.

Last service but the dealer didn't flag anything up. This issue came with the car. I don't know anyone who's got one. The plugs were changed a thousand miles ago. The cars done 2500k since it was serviced in October.

Mine did this a few times, just a suggestion but try cleaning the contact on the starter motor

Mine stopped starting totally every so often and I was bashing the solenoid to get it going, but on the solenoid there is a small white plastic covered spade connector, I sprayed mine with electrical contact cleaner and pushed it on and off the connector several times and do you know what? it starts like a dream now

I was just about to order a new starter motor when this was suggested to me, so it saved me a fortune, and I haven't had the "ages cranking over" syndrome since either (touches lots of wood!!)

Sorry mate, I'm not making myself clear. The starters just fine, the starters working but the engine either fires and stalls and then struggles to start for 5 - 10 seconds or just struggles to start for the same duration. Once running I've noticed it runs lumpy for a minute or two. Once I've passed this the motor runs fine. I'm hoping its not the ETM..... Fingers crossed!!

Make sure you are not starting with your foot on the gas, I sometimes still do this with mine and its almost like it floods it a bit, it starts very well with my foot away from the gas.

I never do, I always start up engines on tick over. It's a problem that comes and goes. Admittedly it's become more frequent recently. Hopefully Wrinkles code reader might give me a clue.
