When was your fuel filter last changed? The reason I ask is because I had a similar issue on my s40 be it a1.6 4 cylinder non turbo tho. The fuel filter was the original at 80k and by chance this when it was ment to be changed. When I changed it the fuel was grey that came out of really badly contaminated. With a fresh filter she starts really well and had no problems in the last 15k miles. Just. Thought and at the small cost it would be well worth doing before anything expensive if its not been done all ready

I'll have a look. It should have been changed nearly two years ago. I'll have to locate it and see.

Update, it's now doing it nearly all the time now, only doing from cold it. But if it's parked up for an hour or two it does play up again. I'm stumped

Gunna reset the ECU for starters. Batteries off now I'm waiting. Wrinkles bringing his code reader tomorrow, let's seed what we can see.

Question

There's another post on here about a similar thing of skittery starts. I get them too and I was thinking it may be a vacuum leak in the brake servo or around there. When you turn your ignition on first thing in the morning, do you hear the brake servo assist pump buzzing for about 5-10 seconds?

No, although I'm not listening for it.

Just been out to the car, there is a buzzing but it lasted a couple of seconds. I could only hear it with the drivers door open though.

How's your battery. At this time of the year, the battery has had a lot taking out of it.

I accidentally flattened it last weekend by leaving the cd running for too long. The AA man checked it and he recons it's fine. I can leave the car parked for a week and it holds well. I did wonder if it was a battery.

The reset I did yesterday has sorted it so far. It's behaving itself so far. The cars running better but I've done this before so I might reset every six months and see what happens. No errors came up on Ricks code reader so that can't be a bad thing.

Watch this space ?
