1971 Volvo 144 - How much is it worth?
Hi All,
I am sad to be moving towards selling my beloved Volvo 144. Living in London is making it difficult to keep! Before I sell it I wanted to see if anyone would be willing to put a price on it? I bought it for £1000 two years ago, and have since fixed up the engine, suspension, and brake system so that it is running nicely - I have probably spent another couple of thousand on it! Maybe not that much, but certainly enough to be too much. It's done 105k and is in nice condition. Definitely not concours, but nice. There is some rust around on the body work, most notably on the tops of the front wings, where it is bubbling the paint. But I have very thoroughly Dinitrolled everything and there doesn't seem to be anything getting worse. I will try to get some pictures today to add to the thread. A friend of a friend has offered £1500 for it and I don't really have a clue what it's worth. It's not got overdrive and it is in desperate need of a garage and a wax, but it's a good runner. I really don't want to sell it but I can only get one residents parking permit and I need a car with 5 gears!! |

wow - seats are immaculate
I think £1500 is a fair offer to be honest - but maybe hold out for £1700 / £1800 all the best

Thanks for letting me know! Yes the seats are in great nick.
I am trying to find a garage to keep it in so that I don't have to sell it! But if that doesn't work out then once its cleaned up I think it will be slightly more attractive to prospective buyers! |

Hi, My 2ps worth
£1500 like previous comment is probably fair Practical classics say £2500 condition 1 £1100 condition 2 see http://www.practicalclassics.co.uk/i...PRICEGUIDE.pdf The interior does look good that should help to bump the price up. Assuming everything works mechanically in you case the difference between condition 1 and 2 is going to be the bodywork if it's just the wings that need sorting I'd have thought that would cost up to £500 to pay someone to sort the pair if the rear arches need doing the buyer will probably need to budget up to £700 a side I'd make a big point to the seller about the condition of the interior |

great looking car
to me i would have thought it was worth a lot more than £1500, know if i owned it theres no way i would part with it, free tax a great classic volvo.
now if a dealer was selling it it would be pick a number between 2 and 10 and multiply it by 1500.

what about renting a lock up ? - just a thought
with limited mileage insurance would be less than £100 PA as a second car
no tax Perhaps you could rent a lock up? lock ups round here go for £50 ish a month , I guess more up your way though Just a thought |

You'd be lucky to find a lock up big enough for that barge.

Just for interest we pay £24 per month for the good-quality all-brick council lock-up in Crawley, which is just big enough for my friends luxurious "barge" Volvo 164 but one has to take the towbar off before parking up!
If your council is only catering for modern pint-size puddle-jumpers thats tough, but Crawley is a council of realists. Give 'em a try. |
