Default Would this be a cheap fix for trim ?

Having cleaned the car obviously looks much better for it but not happy with the plastic trim all round (XC70) Being silver car it stands out badly. Has anyone tried using liquid black boot polish with any success? if not should I resort to one of the branded products.

2nd trim question, car fitted with the bright silver trim to console area/door trims etc - cant stand it and much prefer the wood trim seen in other examples. Can this be replaced? breakers have said no and the only trim company I found on ebay don't fit this exact model. Thought I read a thread on the forum about similar but cant seem to find it now.
many thanks

Gtechniq C4 is the stuff you want to restore trim.

Clean trim
Final wipe over with IPA
Apply Gtechniq C4

LINKY!

Don't be fooled by the small quantity bottle it goes a long way, applied with a cotton wool pad.

Good reviews (less for the brush that comes with it)

I've been thinking about C4 the black trim on my XC70 for a while, but I have a lot of tar spots and am not sure about removing them.
I did use AG tar remover on the trim parts of an old V40 last year but on that it seemed to start taking the surface off and I don't want that on the xc.
Any suggestions?
thanks

WD40 works well removing tar spots but not sure if that will interfere with the subsequent application of C4. You could also try white spirit used sparingly, to remove the tar but not sure how that would affect the plastic trim (try it out of sight under the cill or front valance?. Methylated spirits should also work as would IPA - I prefer to drink my India Pale Ale, so I use Isopropyl Alcohol as a cleaner instead!

Black boot polish a few times then megs tyre gel to seal it and bring it up whenever you wax the car...

Peanut butter, can't beat it for bringing up the trims, cheap and plentiful.

+1 for peanut butter. The oil in it works a treat.
