You silver tongued charmer. I just might give it a whirl next time out. Most changes I notice or at least think I do, a reduction in noise. Handbook is quite broad in any case and the whole thing is overthought.

Hey Rossi, is that 5w 40 your using still Fully Synthetic ?

Thanks for the advice.

Can you possibly post a seller's link for the specific oil you suggest?
You are referring to the Euro IV engine, just to make sure?

No mate, mine is a Euro 3, so I'm referring to my specific engine. That said, Volvo recommend the 0W 30 in mine, which is too thin apparently, especially with the mileage it has done (120k).

Try going on the different oil company website's, enter your reg, see what their recommendations are.

Euro 4 engine is coming up with 0W 30, so you're right anyway my friend.

both of those are a5 b5 so they would be fine but there not any thicker so will probably not help oil consumption. My euro 4 is using oil and its never had anything other than the Castrol 0-30 a5 b5 from new as it has full Volvo history up to my owner ship. However it runs so well with no knocks or rattles ect so im keeping it on that even if it is costly the oil spec is the best you can get or so I read on various oil sites explaining the specs. Personally I would just keep topping it up and not worry about it but make sure what ever oil you use if suitable for a DPF car other wise you will have further problems

I've achieved well over 650 miles out of a tank full in my D5 Auto Euro3 S60, and over 800 from my 2.5d VAG engined V70. Those are actual figures, and not going off the DIM display.
what makes you say its to thin? When I was reading up online about this as my euro 4 likes a drink of oil the various sites that explained the spec say that 0 30 oils are not thin and contain good wear additives ect. Im not an oil person so im not criticizing you im just interested in your comments that all
