Thanks, I'll try to get that done today if I can. Do you know if there's a fuse I can remove in the meantime?

That it's something else?

I don't know what happen with these cars if the siren gives up, but on the previous generation, there was a message that showed up when it happened. The alarm didn't go off just because of a bad battery in the siren.

The bonnet sensor is one possible offender. Not too unusual that they develop a glitch.

Then it could of course be any of the door sensors, or in the rear lock.

Reading the error codes with VIDA is supposed to show you the sensor that triggered the alarm. That would make troubleshooting easier, compared to checking everything just to be sure.

I'm going to see a friend who's a Jaguar specialist this morning, he says he has the equipment to read it so I'll try him first.

Well that didn't happen due to work commitments. I looked at the manual and found the fuse for the siren (26 under the glove box) so I took that out and that disabled the air con, Bluetooth, radio and just about everything else in the centre console! So now it's parked up unlocked until I find time for it. What fun!

I had the codes read and it points to a duff siren module, which I'm assuming means the battery. Unfortunately it's not just a case of removing the battery and replacing, the unit has to be cut open and taped up again. I may just go for a new part and be done with it.

On my P2, I cut open the unit, removed the old battery and replaced with an external battery pack hidden in the engine bay - the sort cheaply available for many cordless phones. Then glued it back together with epoxy, taped it for added waterproofing and it was good for many years: plus i could easily change the battery again if needed. Cost less than a tenner.

On the P3, the alarm siren is mounted under plastic scuttle trim at the base of the windscreen, so a lot easier to get to than under the wheel arch on the P2.

I guess I've got nothing to loose, so when I've removed it I may as well take it apart to see what I can do, got to be better than £200!

Thanks to Simon and his info, I removed the siren module today from underneath the scuttle tray, if you have fingers like sausages you may struggle! It's totally different to the earlier one in that it's all metal. Tomorrow I'll find a way of opening it and report back.
