I have an 06 D5 185 with 150K on the clock. I bought it 5 years ago when it was on 106K. Full Volvo service history since it was new to now but in the last 5 years I've had to get:

Gearbox rebuild
Reversing sensors
Stereo refurb
Engine mounts
Wishbones
Steering pump
Alternator and pulley
Battery
Rear electronic 4C shocks

It's been a money pit but I bloody love it. Only car I've ever had that I can drive from London to Cornwall without a break it's so comfortable.

E3 or E4 out of interest? I'm assuming that they did put that engine in the XC70?

I understand the 163bhp is E3 and the E4 variant is 185bhp

I was wondering whether the short lived E4 163 engine was ever fitted to the XC 70

D5244T (163bhp, black engine cover, badged D5) is E3 and
D5244T5 (also 163bhp, silver engine cover, badged 2.4D) is E4.

You misquoted me (someone else made that statement) and not answered the query which I did raise!

I think something is wrong with the quoting system. There are a lot of misquotes.
PS: By the time I finished writing my post, you already made a new one (which I obviously didn't notice).
Gonna contact a friend of mine who has a 2005 XC70 and ask him whether his engine is E3 or E4. All I know that it's 163 bhp.

No worries, be interesting to know, but just idle curiosity really.

Indeed - I stand corrected

Agree it will be intersting to know if the E4 163 was installed. Not that mine's changing or anything.
