Default Hi I Got myself a AUTOOL SDT-206 Smoke tester

Hi I Got myself a AUTOOL SDT-206 Smoke tester
cost was just over £173 inc DHL Delivery from Germany so no extra tax as we are still in the EU at the moment, it came in 4 working days, it works very well
with some very nice and pipe fittings , it has a built in compressor so no messing about with a large external compressor, it runs of 12v so just connect it to the car battery it only takes 6 amps max , smoke is produced very fast,
very good for working on turbo cars,
this was over £75 cheaper than getting it from amazon or ebay,
Dave

thanks Dave good info. A smoke tester is on my list of things I want (need?).

I'd be interested in an update when you have used it in anger.

All you have to do is to find a job that needs doing , and then you do "need" it, and have every excuse for buying one.

Sometimes I feel a man's mission is to assemble as many tools as possible so that you are never held up for lack of one when you start a job.

That's me too. But I've been clean now for months. Buying just one small spanner could set me off again and I'll end up taking money from my wifes purse to buy more gear.

Hi Just in case you did not see my other post,

Today I did a smoke test with my new smoke tester
it is a lot easier to use then a home made tester,
no messing with a compressor, smoke starts in about 1min,
I removed the pipe that goes to the MAF/Airbox , and inserted the nice rubber cone adaptor that comes with the tester, I only let the pressure build up to
2psi as there is a hose that goes from the cold air pipe just before the turbo
this hose is the crankcase breather, so I did not want to pressure the crankcase to much and blow a seal/core plug,,,
but I did want to smoke test all of the engine, I will block this pipe when I want to do higher pressure testing,
there was a very small leak at this breather pipe to the heater on the cold air pipe, this may have been my doing as I fitted a new pipe clamp 3 years ago when I changed the cold air pipe as it was split,
so I just did up the clamp some more and all is now good,
I will try the smoke tester up the exhaust pipe, then that will test the pipe and the turbo manifold gaskets
for any small leaks
Dave
