Default Windows open with ignition

C70 2004 convertible. When you turn ignition to position 1 or 2 all 4 windows open. You can close them but very annoying and dangerous when parking if you don't remember.

Hi mike16,

I can't give you a definitive answer to solving this issue but if it's something you are unable to do yourself there is an independent near to you in Watford.
Darryl Cars, he works out of Watford Brake & Clutch, corner of Whippendell Rd & Queens Ave. Might be able to help, many years Volvo experience.

Thanks. I know Darryl Cars. However I have already used an auto-electrician with Volvo connections, he had the plug-in computer etc and we haven't identified a fault which we can fix.

I think the most likely culprit will be the drivers door switch pack. These are notorious for corrosion so would replace that first.

Thinking of it logically when the ignition is switched to position1 the accessories are live, radio, windows etc. The only thing stopping the windows from working is the switch breaking the circuit. If there is corrosion or a fault within the all four window switch it could be permanently live, thus operating the windows when the ignition is switched on. Then operating the switch to raise the windows breaks the circuit and makes the 'up' circuit live and the windows close.

It would be worth replacing the switch pack if only to discount that as the cause. Always handy to have a spare switch pack on the shelf, therefore not wasted if that is not the cause.

did you ever figure this out as i have the same problem when key is between 1 and 2 all four windows go down and it is rather annoying if you dont catch it fast enough.

My switch pack came full of water but no fish
I pulled it apart and cleaned it, five years ago

and I didn't lose the 4 terminals with springs
when they shot across the room. Magnificent!

Don't underestimate a corroded alarm siren unit with strange electrical behaviour
